Marilyn Minter was born in Shreveport, USA in 1948. She combined images from photographs into new compositions, transforming parted lips, made-up eyes and ornate accessories into a beautiful and sensual painted image. Most often enamel on metal, these large-scale works use her realistic technique to critique the promise of perfection in fashion, exposing the imperfection of the body and the unabashed exploitation of the female body as a catalyst for consumerism.
Minter has had solo exhibitions at White Columns, New York; San Francisco Museum of Modern Art; Salon 94, New York; Regan Projects, Los Angeles; Museum of Contemporary Art, San Diego; and Cleveland Museum of Contemporary Art.
